Rocky Balboa, a romantic

This Valentine's Sunday it's time to talk about Rocky Balboa, one of the most romantic guys I know.

And by romantic I don't mean a person who is passionate about his work, who has a goal... that too, but a Cupid's romantic .

One about roses, chocolates and champagne.

Rocky's love for Adrian is bigger that of Jack for Ross in Titanic or that of Romeo himself for Juliet.

Remember what Rocky shouts when he wins a big fight?

Adrian!

And when he runs through the streets of Philadelphia and reaches the top of the stairs... what does he say?

Adrian!

He would even eat turtle food to make her fall in love with him.

Romanticism aside, Juan, a Sunday reader, asked about Rocky's running style.

He says:

I was watching Rocky I a couple of days ago and when he runs he wears Converse shoes. But unlike Travolta (he refers to this article on 'Grease') he runs on his heels, at least when he is sprinting in the harbour with the boats in the background.

Does this mean that it is possible to run in minimalist shoes landing on heels?

Yes, although Rocky doesn't heel.

Look.

If you've been running in cushioned shoes for years and you start running in minimalist ones, your running style is not going to change. Not too much.

Unless you are trying to improve your running technique.

That's why it's possible to heel running barefoot or minimalist. But when the heel strike is very pronounced after a few steps it hurts and warns you that something is wrong.

What Rocky does is different.

Before the heel touches the ground, the foot turns quickly and plants the forefoot, just behind the toes.

And if for a moment his heel touches the ground, the foot quickly swings to the forefoot. And it is in the forefoot area that the weight of the body is landed.

The reason for this?

Shoes with a lot of protection gradually change the way you run. And Converse shoes are heavy and have a very thick sole.

Ok, well.

Back to Adrian and Rocky.

Sometimes we need a part that complements us, that makes us better, that helps us, but doesn't limit us.

What would have Rocky become if he hadn't followed his instinct, his nature?

Adrian tried to overprotect him so he wouldn't fight.

And all of this is around overprotection, but in the feet.

Your feet nature is to be barefoot, moving freely, feeling every step they take.

And from the moment we are born they put us, they put you, more and more barriers.

A little protection?

Yes, but no more than necessary.

Like the ones offered by the Merrell Trail Glove (and that's 6) for the countryside, the city or the gym.

Both for him and for her.

A little bit of protect. Yes.

Overprotect. No.

Health starts in your feet.
