Holy Feet, Devil's Shoes: A Guide to Surviving Holy Week

Holy Feet, Devil's Shoes: A Guide to Surviving Holy Week

In a few days, when you see the procession go by, you will witness some curious things.

One of them is the penitents who go barefoot.

And you might think: "What merit does that barefoot penitent have."

And yes, they do have merit.

As does the costalero who leaves his soul—and his back—carrying the paso.

But there's one that no one talks about.

One who also suffers, in silence, without incense, without saeta… but with feet squeezed as if wearing shackles.

The one wearing a suit, tie, French cuff shirt… and hard, narrow shoes that could pass for torture instruments.

You know who it is.

It might even be you.

Because penance in this century does not always come in a capirote.

It comes in the form of tight shoes, hard leather, cushioned insoles (but useless).

It comes in those "elegant" models that promise to give you presence, but all they give you are blisters and clawed toes.

Why am I telling you this?

Because Holy Week has many faces.

There is the religious, the cultural, the emotional.

But there's also the physical.

And there, the greatest punishment is spending hours in footwear that ignores how your foot works.

There is a solution for this.

You already know it, another thing is if you play dumb, as if it wasn't your concern.

Say nothing and even though you smile and look at the paso with devotion. Inside you are thinking of taking off your shoes and walking barefoot down the street.

Your back hurts, and your feet, the edges of the shoe dig into you, they rub your heel…

But hey, "you look elegant," right?

No. You're suffering.

So let me offer you an alternative.

Because there are suit shoes that are phenomenal. You look dapper and your toes celebrate as if they were playing the piano.

They are barefoot. They are minimalist.

But the best part: they simulate heels.

And it's not magic, it's their unique design.

They are called Zaqq: barefoot footwear for suits.

Are you a costalero? Then stop beating around the bush

The Groundies Lima change the game for you.

Shaped like a foot, not a spear tip. With a flexible sole, not a concrete block. And they hold up.

And finally, we come to the real sufferers. It seems you can only look beautiful in heels…

But tell me something: Is there anything more elegant than the natural?

Personally, I love it when I see a woman in flat shoes.

Without artifices.

Without platforms.

Just style and authenticity.

And today I bring you two models with which you can wear jeans or skirts without losing a bit of beauty.

I make it difficult for you, because they are two gems:

That enough penance is getting up early, dressing the kids, putting up with your mother-in-law, and enduring four hours of procession in the sun, …

As if on top of that, you needed to torture your feet by following protocol.

And yet, there are those who endure it with a smile.

That's what faith is.

Truly amazing.

Health starts at your feet.
