Pain in your knees? Maybe the problem is not where you think it is

Pain in your knees? Maybe the problem is not where you think it is

A few years ago, if you went to the doctor for knee pain, you already knew what to expect:

“Strengthen your quadriceps,” “take these anti-inflammatories,” and “if it doesn’t get better, we’ll operate.”

That’s how it was.

"Next patient, please!"

And although it sounds like a joke, here we are in 2024, and the story remains the same.

We’re still repeating the same old prescriptions: surgeries, pills, and more surgeries.

We’re close to having flying cars (according to my little one, by 2030), yet we’re still solving problems with remedies that don’t work.

It’s frustrating, but that’s how it is.

Let me tell you what happened to Miguel.

A regular guy, the kind you pass by on the street, with his life, his job, and his right knee pain.

His knee hurt so much that one day he went to the doctor.

And there was the guy in the white coat (inspiring more authority and fear than Putin with his nuclear missiles) with his quick diagnosis:

“Miguel, this is easy: surgery and some pills.”

Miguel asked about the cause and other remedies.

But the doctor insisted. The only solution was the same as always.

Miguel didn’t buy it.

He refused surgery, left the pills in a drawer, and sought another opinion.

And this is where it gets interesting.

He found a trainer, one of those who push you out of your comfort zone.

Shortly after starting, the trainer told him:

“Miguel, we’re going to train barefoot.”

Miguel thought the guy was half-crazy, but he gave it a shot. And that’s where the change began.

The pain started to subside. Each week, he felt better.

And it wasn’t magic.

It’s pure logic: when you let your feet work the way they’re supposed to, your whole body feels it.

His knees stopped hurting, his muscles started to balance out, and Miguel regained something he thought he’d never have again: his mobility.

What cured him?

A mix of things.

Training, yes, but also letting his feet work as they are meant to: the foundation of his body, the connection to the ground, the pillar on which everything else depends.

The curious thing is, no one tells you this.

We’re so focused on protecting our feet that we end up overprotecting them.

Insoles, rigid shoes, soles that absorb every last impact... And in the end, our feet weaken, and as a domino effect, our knees, hips, and back suffer.

You know what?

Feet don’t need protection; they need work.

Miguel is 36 years old, and now he runs, jumps, trains, and does whatever he wants.

Not because he’s a superhero, but because he changed his approach.

He decided to listen to his body, work on his stability, and finally let his feet do their job.

Amazing, isn’t it?

Crazy how things work.

Here we are at the end of November.

The cold and rain are here, and it’s boot season.

But not the kind that weigh more than my kid’s backpack.

I’m talking about lightweight, flexible boots that respect the natural shape of your feet and let them move as they should.

Like the Groundies, for example.

They’re perfect for everything: walking, working, or going out for a drink.

And the best part is, they’re not just comfortable; they’re stylish too.

It doesn’t matter if you’re into a rocker vibe, urban looks, or something more casual. There’s a pair for everyone.

And while your feet are happy, your knees and posture will thank you.

So now you know: if your knees hurt, take a look down and ask yourself: how are my feet?

They’re the ones supporting you every day. Take care of them, and the rest of your body will thank you.

Don’t forget:

Health starts with your feet.
