There are bold teachers who say which shoes are suitable and which are not for physical education classes, just as there are federations that even get involved in the colour of runners' underwear.
The thing is that my niece's teacher has forbidden her to do sport with the Vivobarefoot Ultra Bloom Kids.
A pair of shoes that my children have been wearing for years running, playing ball, tennis and whatever else on long summer afternoons.
And a few years ago the Mountain Federation banned running with minimalist sandals, when there are hundreds of people in Spain and thousands around the world who do it.
That led to a long debate that is still going on today.
Diego talks about his experience with sandals in the mountains.
He says the following:
'I came to the shop because I was fed up with hiking boots in summer and I bought some sandals in Decathlon that turned out to be rubbish.
Looking for a good model I came across Lunas Sandals and from there to Zami.
I think that the adaptation to this footwear has been love at first use, I have 4 pairs and I haven't used any of my previous footwear.
In fact, recently, for a dinner party I went to wear some of those pointy-toed shoes, which I thought were super cool before, and I didn't make it past the front door of my house.
Also, a few months ago an important client from Finland came to the company and my counterpart in that company showed up wearing Vivobarefoot trail shoes.
What a surprise! It was a great icebreaker moment for me.
I was wearing Lems boots and I remembered that post of yours about the Finns, and that's when I realised... this Antonio isn't just talking, this is true!
And well, just to comment that despite the warnings of those people so knowledgeable that goes to the mountain to give advice on footwear, after a year of going everywhere with my Lunas Sandals, I have not fallen, nor have I broken an ankle horribly, no bullshit.... only scratches typical of going to the countryside.
I have twice taken out some smartass who goes into the mountains without having any idea where he's going.
They spend a lot of money for boots, poles and a complete equipment, but for a GPS or to remember to put the track in the mobile phone we don't have the head.....
For me, minimalism is to stick to what is really important. The rest is nonsense and serves no purpose, only to get in the way'.
Diego couldn't be more right, but as winter arrives even he needs to protect his feet from the cold.
He moves around the pre-Pyrenees area and last year he was cold with the Lunas, so this year he wants to invest in some boots.
He liked this one:
Vivobarefoot Magna Forest
As Diego says, the Michellin sole promises fun.
